Hunger

Lately I have been craving something far better than homemade pork chops (although they are delicious). I have been craving the Word of God.

Though so many times I find my self doing other things instead of reading my bible. Like: veggin' out in front of the t.v. or sleeping in until noon. This leaves me in a continual state of starvation (obviously not from physical food, I think we all know that by my keg that sits just above my waste). When you are starving what will you eat? Answer: anything. When you are thirsty what will you drink? Answer: anything (even toilet water). My point is although I am hungry for the Word, this does not mean I am feeding that hunger. I am just masking it with lesser alternatives such as podcasts, articles, books, etc. So what is the solution? Answer: Read your bible duh!

Ah, only if it were that easy. You see, the Lord has revealed to me that at the root of all sin you will find either pride or idolatry. Without digging up the root of a weed you will find that it just keeps coming back. Well it is a lot like that with our sin. We need to dig to the root.

What is the root? Idolatry. of what? I idolize comfort. I do what is every easiest and leaves me most comfortable. Wake up early to read my Bible or sleep in? sleep in. Watch a Driscoll sermon or read my Bible? Driscoll sermon. Why? because i would rather eat Taco Bell than cook and eat a homemade pork chop dinner... duh. which one takes more effort?...

anyways i think you get the point...

Solution: be obedient to the scriptures, do hard things, let the spirit lead. I want to crave the Lord like David did in Psalm 42:1 "As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God."

I hope you enjoy this random post and maybe what God is doing in my heart can help encourage you in your walk with Christ.
